    polio.
The drug Cefalexin may be prescribed for patients awaiting surgery and in the postoperative period in order to prevent complications and to attach a secondary bacterial infection.

Contraindications

Before starting therapy with the drug Cefalexin, the patient must necessarily pass tests to identify the causative agent of infection and carefully study the accompanying instructions. Capsules Cefalexin should not be taken orally if there are one or more conditions:
    individual intolerance to the drug;
    cases of severe allergic reactions to cephalosporins;
    severe renal insufficiency;
    pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
    severe liver disease, accompanied by a violation of the function of the body;

Dosing and Administration

The dose of the drug is determined individually for each individual patient, depending on the indications and severity of the course of the disease.
According to the instructions, patients older than 12 years and adults are prescribed 500 mg of the drug 4 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 4 g. The average course of treatment with the drug is 5 days, in some cases it can last up to 10 days according to the doctor's indications.
Patients who have severe liver or kidney disease, including a history, the dose of the drug is selected individually.
For patients younger than 12 years, the drug Cefalexin is administered in the form of a suspension for oral administration.

Use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation

Cefalexin is not prescribed to women during pregnancy. This is due to the fact that preparations of the cefasporin series easily penetrate the placental barrier and can provoke a toxic damage to the internal organs and nervous system of the fetus. Clinical experience of capsules use Cefalexin, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, is absent, and the safety of the drug for the mother and fetus is not established.
During breastfeeding, the use of Cefalexin in the form of capsules is possible only if the expected benefit for the mother exceeds the possible risks for the baby. When a negative side reaction occurs in the infant, treatment with the drug is stopped or the lactation is completed.

Adverse Events

When taking capsules inside, patients with hypersensitivity to Cefalexin may experience side effects:
    from the digestive system - the formation of painful sores in the oral cavity, glossitis, candida stomatitis, dry mouth, heartburn, belching, nausea, lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, development of colitis, ulcerous formations on the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, the development of Crohn's disease, impaired liver function, development of acute pancreatitis or hepatitis;
    allergic reactions - urticaria, skin itching, dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, development of angioedema, anaphylactic shock;
    from the hematopoiesis - a decrease in the number of leukocytes, a decrease in the level of platelets, agranulocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, an increase in prothrombin time;
    from the side of the nervous system - headaches, drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, apathy, paresthesia, disorientation in space, impaired consciousness;
    from the organs of the urinary system - a violation of kidney function, rezi and burning during urination, the development of interstitial nephritis, the development of acute renal failure;
    itching of the genitals, thrush, bacterial vaginosis, dysbiosis.
In the event of one or more side effects, the patient should consult a doctor.

Overdose

It is not recommended to specifically exceed the dose indicated in the instructions, since prolonged use of antibiotics in high doses can lead to an overdose that is clinically manifested by the following symptoms:
    nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea;
    discharge of blood in the urine;
    pain in the kidney, the development of acute renal failure;
    Crohn's disease, development of intestinal necrosis.
Treatment of an overdose consists in purifying the stomach and blood from the antibiotic, maintaining vital organs, electrolyte balance, normalizing respiratory function.

Drug Interactions

With the simultaneous administration of Cefalexin capsules with Furosemide or Lasix, the risk of developing acute renal failure and other kidney damage is increased.
Under the influence of Cefalexin, the therapeutic effect of indirect anticoagulants will increase.
Capsules Cefalexin should not be given concomitantly with antacids or enterosorbents, as this leads to a decrease in the absorption of the antibiotic and a decrease in its therapeutic effect.

special instructions

Patients with intolerance to penicillin-type antibiotics may respond negatively to cefalexin capsules, so before starting therapy, make sure that there is no allergy to the drug.
Treatment with the drug can not be stopped before the end of the course of therapy, even if the patient feels much better and the symptoms disappear. This can lead to the development of resistance of the causative agent of the infection to the drug and the transition of the disease to the chronic form of the flow.
During treatment, patients should refrain from drinking alcohol, as this increases the risk of developing toxic kidney and liver damage.
The experience of using the drug in this dosage form in children under the age of 12 years is absent and the safety of the antibiotic is not established, therefore, if therapy with Cefalexin is required, children are prescribed a drug in the form of a suspension.
Against the background of taking cefalexin capsules, dizziness and drowsiness may occur in patients, so during the drug therapy it is recommended to refrain from driving the car and controlling the technique requiring quick response.

Storage conditions

Store the drug in an inaccessible child's place, avoiding direct sunlight on the packaging. The shelf life of the capsules is 4 years from the date of manufacture and is indicated on the package. Do not take the drug inside after the expiration date.
