Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Ferretab Comp is a drug used to prevent and treat conditions associated with iron deficiency (iron deficiency). The action of Ferretab is expressed by the effects of the active substances that make up its composition.
Iron fumarate is an iron salt, which is necessary for the body for the successful synthesis of hemoglobin. Internal intake of iron salts leads to a rapid compensation of its shortage in the body, which subsequently leads to a gradual decrease in laboratory and clinical manifestations of anemia (weakness, dizziness, fatigue, tachycardia, dryness and tenderness of the skin).
Folic acid is required by the body for the normal formation of megaloblasts and normoblasts. Participates in the activation of erythropoiesis, and the replication of amino acids, pyrimidines, purines and nucleic acids, as well as in the exchange of choline. During pregnancy, it protects the body against teratogenic effects.
Ferretab restores and maintains the appropriate concentration of iron in the blood and prevents the development of miscarriage, anemia, premature birth. Also contributes to the normal mental development of children, which, among many factors, depends on the content of folic acid and iron in the body. The percentage of assimilated iron varies from 5% to 35%.
Serum iron is actively associated with transferrin and takes part in the production of hemoglobin, cytochrome oxidase, myoglobin, peroxidase, catalase, and also deposited in tissues in the form of ferritin.
It is allocated by means of intestines and kidneys, and is also excreted later.
For the most part, absorption of folic acid occurs in the upper parts of the duodenum. The protein binds to 64%. Metabolism occurs in the liver, and the secretion is mainly kidney and partially intestinal.
Indications for use
Carrying out prevention and therapy of iron deficiency conditions (including prolonged bleeding, impaired iron absorption, pregnancy, inadequate and / or unbalanced nutrition).
Contraindications
hypersensitivity to the ingredients that make up the drug or the capsule itself;
morbid conditions, accompanied by an increase in the iron content in the body (thalassemia, hemolytic and aplastic anemia, hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis);
Anemia that does not develop because of a lack of folic acid or iron;
a breakdown in the body's absorption of iron (deficiency of vitamin B12, pernicious, lead and sideroachrastic anemia).
Side effects
As a rule, Ferretab is well tolerated. In rare cases, the reception of Ferretab led to negative manifestations of the gastrointestinal tract, a temporary nature: a feeling of heaviness and filling in the stomach, constipation, nausea, the urge to vomit, allergic reactions.
Instructions for use Ferretab
Instructions for Ferretab Comp recommends that you take the capsule orally (orally) on an empty stomach, using a large amount of water. In general, the reception of 1 capsule per day is shown.
With a significant lack of iron or folic acid, the dose is doubled, and in some cases, three times.
After reaching the usual level of hemoglobin, the treatment is continued until the normalization of ferritin, which is a criterion of iron stores in the body. The minimum period of maintenance therapy should be at least 4 weeks.
Overdose
In the case of an overdose of Ferretab, an increase in its side effects was observed.
It is shown that ferritin levels are investigated in order to determine the level of iron. In the case where this level is significantly higher than the norm, iron chelators, for example Desferal, are prescribed in a dose corresponding to the recommendations for its use.
Interaction
With combined use with ascorbic acid, iron absorption improves, and when taken with antacids worsens.
It is necessary to avoid simultaneous use with antibiotics of a number of tetracyclines, since this combination disrupts the absorption of iron.
Phenytoin, cholestyramine, phenobarbital, sulfasalazine, carbamazepine, hormonal contraceptives, trimethoprim, folic acid antagonists, triamterene, raw cereals, bread, eggs, dairy products, tea and solid foods decrease iron absorption.
Storage conditions
The storage temperature of the Ferretab should not exceed 25 ° C.
Shelf life - 36 months.
special instructions
Before the appointment of therapy with the use of Ferretab Comp, studies should be conducted to determine the concentration of ferritin and iron in serum.
There may be a feces colored in a dark color, which has no clinical significance.
Benzidine test, in the presence of Ferretab, can give a false positive result.
Ferretab during pregnancy (and lactation)
If there are indications for the use of the drug Ferretab, its use is allowed during pregnancy and during lactation.
Reviews about Ferretab Comp
Opinions on Ferretab Comp, an iron-containing drug, were divided by about 80%, 80% of which are those patients who were satisfied with its effect. It is rare to find mention of side effects, in particular about constipation (at a dose exceeding 1 capsule per day).
Positive and negative reviews on Ferretab during pregnancy occur in the same percentage. Most often, this drug helps to cope with the problem of low hemoglobin, thereby protecting the fetus from hypoxia and betraying the future mother of vivacity and self-confidence. It is worth noting that when taking Ferretab during pregnancy, almost no mention of the problems of constipation.
Another undoubted advantage of the drug is its low cost, compared with other drugs designed to supplement the iron deficiency in the body.
