Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Oxibutin has a direct spasmolytic effect on the detrusor smooth muscle fibers. The substance blocks the effect of acetylcholine on m-holinoblokatory of the bladder. Then the detrusor relaxes, its volume, on the contrary, increases, the frequency of spontaneous urge to urinate decreases.
After a quick and almost complete absorption in the digestive tract, the active substance enters the systemic circulation. After one hour, its concentration is maximal. The concentration reduction curve is an exponential, the half-life is approximately 3-4 hours.
Within 8 days of systematic reception of the drug, its equilibrium concentration in the blood plasma is reached. If patients of advanced age lead an active lifestyle, the drug does not accumulate in organs and tissues. However, in weakened patients, there is an increase in pharmacokinetic parameters.
