Characteristic

Coltsfoot leaves contain mucus, tannins, bitterness, flavonoids and other biologically active substances.

Description

Pieces of leaves of various shapes. The color is greyish-green with yellowish-green, brownish-green and purple blotches. The smell is absent. The taste of water extract is slightly bitter with a sensation of mucus.

Pharmacotherapeutic group

An expectorant of plant origin.

pharmachologic effect

Infusion of Coltsfoot leaves has expectorant, weak anti-inflammatory effect. Slime, organic acids and saponins contribute to the dilution of viscous discharge in the upper respiratory tract, improvement of sputum discharge. Due to the high content of mucus, the Coltsfoot's preparations have an enveloping effect on the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat and larynx, preventing them from irritation.

Indications for use

Inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (laryngitis, tracheitis, chronic bronchitis, bronchopneumonia), accompanied by a cough with hard-to-separate sputum.

Contraindications for Coltsfoot leaves

Hypersensitivity to the components of Coltsfoot leaves, pregnancy, lactation, children under 12 years.

Dosing and Administration

About 10 g (2 tablespoons) of Coltsfoot leaves are placed in enameled pots, poured into 200 ml (1 cup) of boiling water, covered with a lid and heated in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, filter, the remaining raw material is squeezed. The volume of the infusion obtained is adjusted to 200 ml with boiled water.
Take inside in a warm form 2-3 tablespoons 2-3 times a day for 1 hour before meals.
Before use, the infusion is recommended to be shaken.

Side effect
