The solution contains human recombinant interferon alpha-2b as an active component, as well as additional components such as sodium acetate, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt, dextran 40, sodium chloride, purified water for injection, Tween 80.

The drug has antiviral, antiproliferative, immunomodulating and antitumor properties.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The active substance of the drug interacts with receptors on the surface of cells, initiating a complex chain of transformations (for example, induction of the synthesis of cytokines and enzymes), and also interferes with the synthesis of viral RNA and proteins of the virus. This causes the antiviral and antiproliferative effect of the drug.
In addition, the active substance Altevir activates the presentation of the antigen to immunocompetent cells. It also stimulates the cytotoxic effect of T cells and the phagocytic activity of macrophages, inhibits the synthesis of certain oncogenes and inhibits the proliferation of cells, including tumor cells.
Bioavailability of the drug is about 90%. The elimination half-life is 2-6 hours. The drug is excreted through the kidneys through glomerular filtration. After 16-24 hours the active substance in the blood is not detected. It is split in the liver.

Indications for use

The drug is used for:
    hairy cell leukemia;
    chronic viral hepatitis B (if there is no cirrhosis of the liver and its signs);
    non-Hodgkin's lymphoma;
    papillomatosis of the larynx;
    multiple myeloma;
    genital warts;
    progressive kidney cancer;

Contraindications

Altevir does not apply when:
    hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
    severe renal failure;

Depending on the disease, the instructions for use also provide for the following admission schemes:
    papillomatosis of the larynx - adults 6 million IU 5 times in 7 days or 3-6 million IU three times in 7 days (treatment course - a month), 3 million IU twice in 7 days (treatment course - 12 weeks), 3 million IU times in 7 days (course of treatment - 28 weeks); children 50-100 thousand IU three times in 7 days (course of treatment - a month), 50 thousand IU every 7 days (course of treatment - 28 weeks), 50 thousand IU twice for 7 days (course of treatment - 12 weeks ). In the case of disease progression, the dosage may be increased;
    severe hepatic insufficiency in infants - 3-6 million IU / sq. m the doctor appoints intraperitoneally throughout the week, should be used daily. During the second week of treatment, the same dosage is administered intramuscularly. Frequency of reception can be reduced up to 3 times a week from the third week;

    HIV infection - you need to take 3 million IU three times in 7 days. If neutralizing antibodies appear, the drug is replaced with natural interferon;

    Kaposi's sarcoma - appoint 30 million IU for daily intake, with early diagnosis - 6 million IU (apply should be 6 weeks) daily, the same dosage is prescribed for children;
    chronic myelogenous leukemia - after hematologic remission take 3 million IU / sq. m. a day before cytogenetic remission or regression of the disease;
    Herpes zoster - doctors recommend the use of 6 million IU (treatment course - a week) daily, then, if necessary, take 6 million IU in a day for two weeks. It should be combined with the use of interferon alfa2b (as an ointment) every 6 hours;
    solid tumors - adult patients should take 9 million IU as injections intramuscularly or subcutaneously throughout the month every day, maintaining a dosage of 6 million IU three times in 7 days (treatment course - 3 months), children should be administered 3-6 million IU / sq.m according to the same reception scheme. If the effect is positive, the course of treatment can be stretched for a year in a maintenance dosage.
In some cases, treatment regimens may differ. The maximum dosage in this case should not be higher than 3 million IU.

Interaction

Possible reactions to the combination of Altevir with other drugs are not fully understood. With caution, this drug should be taken with hypnotics and sedatives, as well as those that have a mielosupressive effect, and narcotic analgesics.
If Altevir is used concomitantly with Teofillinum, the concentration of the latter in the blood should be monitored, the dosages may be adjusted.
