Dimexid is a drug that exerts an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect and is used for radiculitis, arthritis, bruises.

Form of issue and composition

The drug is released as a colorless, transparent gel, which has a weak specific odor.
The active component of the drug is dimethyl sulfoxide in an amount of 25 g per 100 g of the drug.
As auxiliary substances, sodium carmellose, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and purified water are used.

pharmachologic effect

The drug in addition to analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect shows fibrinolytic and antiseptic effect.
When penetration of the active component of the drug through the skin or mucous membrane, the skin becomes more susceptible to the effects of other drugs.
After applying the gel, dimethyl sulfoxide enters the bloodstream for 5 minutes and the highest amount is reached after 4-6 hours.

Indications for use

Dimexid gel preparation is prescribed in the following cases:
    Treatment of erythema nodosum.
    Treatment of traumatic infiltrates, damage to ligaments, bruises.
    Elimination of pain in the complex treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, trigeminal neuralgia, radiculitis, arthropathy, deforming osteoarthritis, Bechterew's disease.

Dosage regimen and method of administration

The gel is intended for external use. It should be applied a thin layer on the affected area. The procedure should be carried out 1-2 times a day. The duration of therapy is about 2 weeks. Possible the appointment of a second course after 10 days.

Overdose

When using the drug in a dosage exceeding the therapeutic norm, it is possible to increase adverse reactions.
Treatment of overdose is carried out by canceling the drug, washing the damaged area and removing the medicine.

Drug Interactions

The drug Dimexid gel is allowed to be used together with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibacterial drugs and with heparin.

Pregnancy and lactemia

The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Side effects

The use of the drug can trigger the development of contact dermatitis. Also, the garlic smell may appear in the exhaled air, the pigmentation of the skin may increase. There may be light burning and dry skin, erythematous rashes and allergic reactions.
In rare cases, patients do not tolerate the smell of the drug (nausea, vomiting appear), possibly the appearance of bronchospasm.

Contraindications

The drug is not recommended for use in the following cases:

    Severe atherosclerosis;
    Coma;
