Afobazol tablets belong to the pharmacological group of drugs tranquilizers (ankiolitiki). The drug is used to treat mental manifestations in the form of anxiety and tension.
Form of issue and composition
Afobazol tablets have a white or light cream color, a round, flat-cylindrical shape. Their main active substance is morpholinoethylthioethoxybenzimidazole dihydrochloride, its content in one tablet can be 5 and 10 mg. It also contains auxiliary components, which include:
Tablets are packaged in a blister pack of 20 pieces. The cardboard package contains 3 blisters (60 tablets) and instructions for using the drug.
The active substance tablets Afobazol has an anxiolytic effect, reduces the severity of feelings of anxiety. It has no effect on benzodiazepine receptors, therefore it does not lead to the development of drowsiness, relaxation of the striated muscle (muscle relaxation), memory loss and the ability of the cerebral cortex to concentrate. The drug does not lead to the formation of drug dependence. The active substance has an activating anxiolytic effect, which consists of the following effects:
Reducing feelings of anxiety (fears, concerns, bad forebodings).
Improve sleep (it does not develop drowsiness during the day).
Reduction of tension (tearfulness, anxiety, inability to relax).
Also at the expense of reducing tension, the use of the drug leads to a decrease in spasm of muscles of hollow organs, dry mouth, sweating, dizziness and other vegetative-somatic disorders. To a greater extent, the anxiolytic effect of Afobazol tablets is expressed when it is used in individuals with asthenic traits (hypochondriacal, anxious people, with increased emotional lability).
After taking Afobazol tablets inside, the active substance is quickly and almost completely absorbed into the blood from the lumen of the upper sections of the digestive tract. It is well distributed in all tissues of the body. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys, the half-life (the time of deducing half of the entire dose of the drug) is about 45 minutes.
Indications for use
The use of Afobazol tablets is indicated in pathological conditions accompanied by changes in the functional activity of the cerebral cortex, including:
Neurasthenia, the disorder of human adaptation in society (social adaptation), general anxiety disorders.
Sleep disturbances, coupled with a heightened sense of anxiety.
Premenstrual syndrome in women, characterized by an increased stress of the central nervous system.
An abstinence syndrome after the cessation of alcohol intake in patients with chronic alcoholism.
Facilitating withdrawal syndrome after quitting.
Neurocirculatory dystonia is a violation of central nervous system regulation of systemic arterial pressure.
Afobazol tablets are also indicated in the complex therapy of somatic pathology, which includes bronchial asthma (bronchial spasm triggered by an allergic reaction), coronary heart disease (insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle), arterial hypertension (increased blood pressure), arrhythmia violation of the rhythm and frequency of contractions of the heart).
The use of the drug is contraindicated in case of individual intolerance of the active substance or the auxiliary components of Afobazol tablets. Also, its reception is excluded for pregnant and breast-feeding women, as well as children under the age of 18.
Dosing and Administration
Afobazol tablets are taken internally as a whole, after eating, they are washed down with a sufficient amount of water. The average recommended therapeutic dose of the drug is 10 mg 3 times a day (30 mg per day). If necessary, for medical reasons, the dose may be increased to 60 mg per day. The duration of the course of therapy is on average 2-4 weeks, if necessary, the course can be extended.
In general, Afobazol tablets are well tolerated. Sometimes it is possible to develop an allergic reaction in the form of a rash on the skin, itching and development of urticaria (a characteristic rash that resembles a nettle burn).
There are several specific indications that are important to consider when starting to take Afobazol tablets, these include:
The drug enhances the anxiolytic effect of diazepam and the anticonvulsant effect of carbamazepam.
Afobazol tablets do not enhance the narcotic effect of alcohol and the hypnotic effect of thiopental.
The drug has no effect on a person's ability to perform work, coupled with increased attention and the need for a sufficient speed of psychomotor reactions.
In pharmacies, Afobazol tablets are dispensed on prescription. Excludes their independent reception or application on the recommendation of third parties.
At a significant excess of the recommended therapeutic dose of Afobazol tablets, excessive sedative and hypnotic (hypnotic) effect without miorelaxation develops. In this case, 20% sodium caffeine-benzoate solution is used as an antidote, 1 ml 2-3 times a day.
