Composition

The composition of the drug Convalis is (based on one capsule): 300 mg gabapentin + corn starch, talc, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide, yellow iron oxide.

Form of issue

The preparation is released in the form of yellow capsules of small size. Inside the capsule is a white or white-yellow powder.
The medicine is sold in packages of 30 or 50 pieces.

pharmachologic effect

Antiepileptic, analgesic.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The active component of the agent in its structure is similar to gamma-aminobutyric acid, which is a neurotransmitter. The substance binds to the alpha-2-δ subunit of the calcium channels and stops the process of calcium flow through them. It is these channels that provide the transmission of a nerve impulse signaling pain.
Also, the agent further reduces glutamate-dependent neuronal death, increases the synthesis of GABA, reduces the release rate of neurotransmitters of the monoamine group.
At normal concentrations in blood plasma, the drug has no effect on other GABA receptors, benzodiazepine, glutamate and other receptors. With sodium channels, the substance does not interact.
If you increase the dosage of the drug, its bioavailability will be reduced. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma occurs 2-3 hours after admission. Biological accessibility is about 60%. Eating, even with a high fat content, does not affect the pharmacokinetic performance of the product.
Half-life is about 6 hours. The active substance does not have the ability to bind to plasma proteins.
The drug does not accumulate in the body, does not induce the induction of liver enzymes. The withdrawal from the body is through the kidneys with urine. However, in elderly patients, persons suffering from liver diseases, clearance of gabapentin is somewhat reduced.
Patients with impaired renal function, especially those undergoing hemodialysis periodically, should adjust the daily dosage.
