Synthetic analogue of histamine. Acts like histamine, mainly on histamine H1 receptors. Causes expansion of precapillaries, in particular, facilitates microcirculation in the maze. In addition, betahistine regulates the endolymph pressure in the maze and cochlea, leading to clinical improvement in vertigo of various etiologies. Reduces the frequency and intensity of dizziness, reduces tinnitus, helps to improve hearing in cases of its decline. Increases the tone of the smooth muscles of the bronchi, gastrointestinal tract. May cause increased secretion of gastric juice.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration of betahistine, the dihydrochloride is quickly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Plasma protein binding is low.

Contraindications

Pheochromocytoma, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer in the acute phase, asthma, first trimester of pregnancy hypersensitivity to betahistine.

Dosage and administration

Inside, while eating.
The dose of Vertran is: Table. 8 mg - 1-2 tablets. 3 times a day; tab. on 16 mg - on 1 / 2–1 tab. 3 times a day; tab. on 24 mg - on 1 tab. 2 times a day. The maximum daily dose of Vertran is 48 mg.
The dose and duration of treatment should be selected individually depending on the patient's response to treatment.
Improvement is usually noted already at the beginning of therapy, but it can be gradual and manifest even after several weeks of treatment. A stable therapeutic effect of Vertran in some cases is achieved after several months of treatment.
Dose adjustment in elderly patients, as well as in patients with renal and / or liver failure, is not required.

Side effects of Vertran
