Description of dosage form

Soft gelatin capsules of oblong form with two-color longitudinal coating of halves of shells in light and dark brown color.

Pharmacodynamics

Ferro-Folgamma is a complex anti-anemic drug containing ferrous iron in the form of a simple ferric sulfate salt, vitamins B12, folic acid and ascorbic acid, intended for the treatment of iron deficiency conditions. Iron is an important part of the human body. It is part of hemoglobin, myoglobin and various other enzymes. Ascorbic acid improves the absorption of iron in the intestine. Vitamin B12 and folic acid are involved in the formation and maturation of red blood cells.
The active components of the Ferro-Folgamma preparation are in a special neutral shell, which ensures their absorption, mainly in the upper part of the small intestine. The absence of local irritant effect on the gastric mucosa promotes good tolerability of the drug from the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications Ferro-Folgamma

Treatment of combined iron-folic-B12-deficient anemias caused by chronic blood loss (bleeding gastric, intestinal, from the bladder, hemorrhoids, Meno, metrorrhagia), chronic alcoholism, infections, anticonvulsants and receiving oral contraceptive preparations;
anemia during pregnancy and lactation;
prevention of iron deficiency and folic acid in the II and III trimesters of pregnancy, in the postpartum period, during lactation.

Contraindications for Ferro-Folgamma

hypersensitivity
anemia not related to iron deficiency (eg hemolytic anemia or isolated megaloblastic anemia caused by a deficiency of vitamin B12);
liver failure;
excess iron in the body (eg hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis);
Disorder of iron utilization mechanisms (eg lead anemia, sidero-achestic anemia).

Side effects

Nausea; allergic reactions: eczematous phenomena, urticaria, anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid reactions.

Interaction Ferro-Folgamma with other drugs

Organic acids, calcium salts, phosphates, phytin, cholestyramine, as well as antacid preparations containing aluminum, magnesium, calcium, disrupt iron absorption due to the formation of insoluble complexes.
Preparations containing pancreatic enzymes can reduce iron absorption.
With the simultaneous use of phenobarbital, carbamazepine, valproate, sulfasalazine, hormonal contraceptives, folic acid antagonists, trimethoprim, pyrimethamine and triamterene, the absorption of folic acid decreases.
Iron salts disrupt the absorption in the gastrointestinal tract of antibiotics of the tetracycline group.
Solid food, bread, raw cereals, dairy products, eggs reduce iron absorption.

Dosing and Administration

Inside, after eating.

Overdose

Symptoms: epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, stool disorders, drowsiness, pallor, the development of a shock state up to coma.
Treatment: gastric lavage, deferoxamine administration and adequate maintenance therapy.
