It is necessary for the development and functioning of connective tissue, smooth and skeletal muscles, and also for strengthening the walls of blood vessels. Participates in the metabolism of nucleic acids and prostaglandins, cellular respiratory cycle, in the synthesis of arachidonic acid. In large doses, it prevents the aggregation of platelets. Has a pronounced positive effect on the human reproductive system, slows the development of atherosclerotic changes in blood vessels.

Pharmacokinetics

When ingested absorbed 20% -40% (necessary presence of bile and normal functioning of the pancreas). When the dose is raised, the degree of absorption decreases. The optimal concentration in the blood is 10-15 mg / l. Excretion mainly with feces.
Less than 1% is excreted in the urine in the form of glucuronides and other metabolites.

Very high doses (exceeding 800 mg for a long time) can cause bleeding in patients with vitamin K deficiency; they can disrupt the metabolism of thyroid hormones and increase the risk of thrombophlebitis and thromboembolism in sensitive patients.
Treatment: symptomatic, withdrawal of the drug.

Interaction with other drugs

Enhances the effect of glucocorticosteroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cardiac glycosides. Increases the effectiveness of antiepileptic drugs in patients with epilepsy (who have increased blood levels of lipid peroxidation products).
Iron increases the daily requirement for vitamin E. Vitamin E increases the effect of anticoagulants, if the dose exceeds 400 IU per day.
It is not recommended to simultaneously take other vitamin complexes containing vitamin E, in order to avoid a pre-infection.
The appointment of vitamin E in high doses can cause vitamin A deficiency in the body.
