Tablets Polyoxidonium belong to the pharmacological group of drugs immunostimulants. They are used to increase the functional activity of the immune system in various pathologies, in particular in bacterial and viral infections.

Form of issue and composition

Polyoxidonium tablets are white with a yellow tinge or yellow-orange color, a circular planocylindrical shape with a separation risk on one side and engraving "PO" on the other. The main active substance of the drug is azoximer bromide (polyoxidonium), its content in one tablet is 12 mg. It also includes auxiliary components, which include:
    Povidone.
    Mannitol.
    Potato starch.
    Lactose monohydrate.
    Stearic acid.
    Betacarotene.
Polyoxidonium tablets are packaged in a planar cell pack of 10 pieces. The cardboard pack contains one contour mesh package and instructions for the use of the preparation.

pharmachologic effect

The main active substance of the tablets Polyoxidonium has an immunomodulatory effect, it improves the functional state of the immune system due to several biological effects:
Stimulation of the products of the main regulators and activators of cells of the immune system of cytokines.
Increase the ability of leukocytes to phagocytosis (the process of absorption and digestion of foreign bacterial, fungal cells and viruses).
Improved excretion of toxins from the body (detoxification action) and heavy metal salts.
Increase in the concentration of bactericidal compounds of saliva, which are a nonspecific factor in the protection of the body and lead to the death of pathogenic (pathogenic) bacteria.
Binding free radicals (fragments of molecules of organic compounds that have an unpaired electron and have pronounced chemical activity) damaging cell membranes, including cells of the immune system.
The immunomodulatory effect of the Polyoxidonium tablets is realized in the lymphatic tissue of the intestine (with oral administration), tonsils, Eustachian tubes, as well as the upper (larynx, trachea), lower (bronchi) airways and pharynx (with resorption of the tablet or its sublingual administration). Polyoxidonium tablets are well tolerated, they do not have mitogenic activity (do not cause excessive cell division), do not cause the development of allergic reactions. Also, the drug does not cause a mutation of the genetic material of cells, therefore it does not have a teratogenic effect (formation of malformations in the fetus due to disorders in the genetic material of the cells), mutagenic (cell mutation), carcinogenic (appearance of malignant cancer cells) and embryotoxic (negative effect on the developing fetus) .
After taking the Polyoxidonium pill inside the active substance quickly enough and almost completely absorbed into the systemic bloodstream from the intestinal lumen. It is evenly distributed in the tissues of the body, where it is metabolized to inactive compounds, which are excreted from the body mainly with urine. Half-life (the time during which half of the entire dose of the drug is excreted) for the active substance of the tablets Polyoxidonium is about 18 hours.

Indications for use

Tablets reception Polyoxidonium is indicated for the complex treatment of infectious bacterial, viral, fungal infections that are characterized by severe course and poorly amenable to etiotropic therapy aimed at the destruction of the pathogen; these include:
Acute or chronic infectious-inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, pharynx, paranasal sinuses, middle or inner ear.
Allergic pathology, complicated by the addition of a viral, fungal or bacterial infection.
Increase in the functional activity of the immune system in individuals who often (4-5 times a year) and are long ill with infectious pathology.
Also as a monotherapy, tablets are used for herpetic infection, immunodeficiency (congenital or acquired immune deficiency), as well as for seasonal prophylaxis of influenza and other acute respiratory viral diseases.

Contraindications

Absolute contraindications for the reception of tablets Polyoxidonium are children under 12 years of age, individual intolerance of the active ingredient or auxiliary components of the drug, as well as pregnancy at any time of its course. With caution Polyoxidonium tablets are used in people with concomitant deficiency of kidney functional activity and impaired digestion and absorption of carbohydrates (glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase insufficiency, lactose intolerance). Before using the drug, you should make sure that there are no contraindications.

Dosing and Administration

Polyoxidonium tablets are taken internally as a whole, they are not chewed and washed down with sufficient water or sublingually applied (the tablets are placed under the tongue until completely dissolved). The average dose for adolescents under 18 years is 12 mg, for adults 24 mg in several doses (usually 2-3 times a day), depending on the method of use of the drug, the age of the patient, and the pathological process. Sublingual tablets are used in such dosages:
Infectious inflammatory pathology of the mouth and throat - 12 mg (1 tablet) 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 10-14 days.
Herpetic or severe fungal infection of the oral mucosa - 12 mg 3 times a day (8 hours) for 15 days.
Chronic sinusitis (inflammation of the paranasal sinuses) or otitis (inflammation of the middle or inner ear) - 12 mg 2 times a day for 5-10 days.
Chronic tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils) - 12 mg 3 times a day for 10-15 days.
Chronic inflammatory pathology of the upper respiratory tract - adults 24 mg twice a day, adolescents under 18 years 12 months 2 times a day for 10-14 days.
Prevention of influenza and other acute respiratory viral diseases - in the pre-epidemic period (the time before the anticipated increase in the incidence of colds or influenza, usually winter-spring period), the dose for adults is 24 mg 2 times a day, for children - 12 mg 2 times a day within 10-15 days.
Oral (inside) tablets Polyoxidonium are taken with a chronic infectious inflammatory pathology of the respiratory tract, the dosage for adults is 24 mg 2 times a day, for adolescents under 18 years - 12 mg 2 times a day for 10-14 days. If necessary, the doctor can correct the method of taking, the dosage, the regimen of the drug and the duration of the course of treatment.

Side effects

With proper administration taking into account the dosage, side effects to Polyoxidonium tablets do not develop.

Terms and conditions of storage

Shelf life of Polyoxidonium tablets is 2 years. They should be stored in original factory packaging, dark, dry, out of reach of children at an air temperature of +4 to + 25 ° C.

Polyoxidonium (international name (INN) - Azoxymer bromide) has a complex action for the treatment and prevention of acute and chronic infectious diseases of any etiology. The drug has a rare combination of pharmacological effects:

Activates immunity

Polyoxidonium affects all factors of the immune system, providing a comprehensive response of the body to the invasion of the infection. The drug activates all mechanisms of immunity. All processes go through a natural scenario of a normal immune response, which is inherent in nature.

Displays toxins

Penetrating into the body, the virus begins to multiply, causing the development of a local inflammatory reaction (swelling of the nasal mucosa, sore throat, cough, etc.) and temperature rise.
Through damaged epithelial barriers, the virus and tissue decay products enter the bloodstream, causing intoxication, manifested by headache, weakness, loss of appetite, pain in the muscles and joints.
Special active groups of the molecule Azoximer bromide have the ability to block soluble toxic substances and microparticles and remove them from the body. Due to this, Polyoxidonium ® is able to reduce intoxication and quickly improve your health

Charges with antioxidants

Polyoxidonium saturates the body with antioxidants, reducing the inflammatory response. Why is this necessary? During the disease, a large number of free radicals are formed. They behave unpredictably and destroy healthy cells. Antioxidants neutralize the destructive effect of free radicals and repair damaged cells.
The drug Polyoxidonium is used for the prevention of influenza and ARVI. With preventive administration, Polyoxidonium ® helps reduce the incidence of recurrent diseases. The drug is well compatible with other drugs.
