Form of issue

The main metabolite of clarithromycin is 14-OH-clarithromycin, which is a microbiologically active metabolite. With respect to some microorganisms, it exerts a more pronounced activity than the active substance in the initial state.

Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

The process of the metabolism of clarithromycin occurs in the liver. The level of bioavailability of the drug is approximately 50%. About 70% of the substance binds to blood serum proteins. In tissue and fluid in the human body, clarithromycin and its 14-OH-metabolite penetrate rapidly. Approximately 40% of clarithromycin is excreted from the body through the kidneys, another 30% through the intestine.

Contraindications

    high sensitivity to the components of tablets and other drugs from the group of macrolides;
    renal failure in severe form;

    porphyria;
    age to 18 years.
The simultaneous administration of the antibiotic Klacid SR and the following drugs is not allowed: pimozide, astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, as well as with oral forms of medications midazolam, Alprazolam, Triazolam.

Overdose

Interaction
