Form of issue and composition
The preparation Betadine is released as a 10% solution of dark brown color with a volume of 30 ml, 120 ml and 1000 ml. The medicine should not contain precipitated or suspended particles.
In 1 ml of the solution, 100 mg of povidone-iodine is contained as the active substance.
As auxiliary substances, glycerol, citric acid, nonoxyl 9, sodium hydroxide solution 10%, disodium hydrogen phosphate, purified water are used.

pharmachologic effect

The disinfectant and antiseptic property of the drug is manifested by iodine, which is released from the complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone in interaction with the skin and mucous membranes. As a result, iodine binds to proteins of bacterial cells and leads to the death of microorganisms. Has a high bactericidal effect on gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Also has a harmful effect on viruses, fungi, spores and protozoa.

Pharmacokinetics

Prolonged use of the drug Betadine solution on large areas of skin with extensive wounds and burns, leads to the absorption of large amounts of iodine. Elevated levels of iodine in the blood passes 7-14 days after the last administration of the drug. In people who have a healthy thyroid gland, this increase in iodine does not affect the hormonal background. From the body, iodine is excreted only by the kidneys.

Pharmacodynamics

Iodine, which reacts with proteins of microorganisms, loses its color. Accordingly, the indicator of the effectiveness of the preparation is the intensity of brown staining. After the disappearance of the color, you can reapply the drug. The solution of Betadine is easily washed off and dissolved in water.
