pharmachologic effect

Pharmacodynamics

Docosanol is an antiviral agent. In vitro studies have shown that docosanol affects the adhesion of the virus to the plasma membrane, which inhibits the penetration of the virus into the cell and its replication. This mechanism of action makes it unlikely that the Herpes simplex strains resistant to the antiviral effects of docosanol will appear, but also protects against the penetration of the virus into healthy cells. In vitro studies have shown that cells treated with docosanol are resistant to infections caused by lipid-membrane viruses, such as the first type of Herpes simplex virus.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied externally, Erazaban is practically not subjected to systemic absorption. Docosanol is metabolized intracellularly to docosanoic acid (the main metabolite). Docosanol and its metabolite are endogenous components of cell membranes in humans. When applying the cream on intact (healthy) skin: the absorption is minimal, not detected in the blood. When applied to affected skin: moderate absorption. Excreted by the kidneys.

Indications

Erasaban, indications for use
Infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by the Herpes simplex type 1 virus (including herpes lips).

Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to docosanol or any other component of the drug;
    age up to 12 years (there is no experience of use).
With care: pregnancy and lactation.

Dosage and administration

Outwardly. Erazaban is recommended to be applied 5 times a day (approximately every 3 hours in the daytime) as early as possible after the start of infection, applied in a thin layer on the affected skin areas bordering them. The average healing time is 4 days.
The cream is applied either with a cotton swab or with clean hands to avoid further infection of the affected areas.
The effectiveness of the therapy depends on the time of initiation of therapy: the earlier the onset of the onset of symptoms of the disease, the patience is started, the higher the efficiency. In the case of the start of treatment of a recurrent infection during the prodromal phase or at the very beginning, the preparation Erasaban prevents the appearance of bubble eruptions and the formation of crusts. If the bubbles have already appeared, it reduces swelling and pain, after 2 days the pain, burning, itching, tingling disappear, the visible herpetic manifestations are reduced significantly - bubbles on the lips or on the skin at the site of injury.
It is necessary to conduct a full course of therapy for 5 days, in order to achieve the greatest effect from the patient, even if the signs of infection disappear after 1-2 days of treatment. In the absence of healing, treatment can be continued for up to 10 days.
Dose adjustment in elderly patients and in patients with impaired renal function is not required.
