Methyluracil, chemically called dioxomethyl tetrahydropyrimidine, is a pyrimidine derivative. In terms of pharmacological activity, it refers to stimulators of tissue regeneration - substances that are capable of restoring dead tissue and organs.
Regeneration stimulants are divided into general cellular (steroids, non-steroidal anabolics - Derinat, methyluracil, vitamin substances) and tissue-specific, which can act on a certain type of tissue.
Methyluracil, like other members of the group of substances to which it belongs, exhibits pronounced anabolic and anti-catabolic properties. Under its influence, there is an active biosynthesis of protein and reduced excretion of nitrogen, potassium, sulfur and phosphorus. It actively stimulates cell regeneration, accelerates wound healing and enhances specific and nonspecific immunity. When ingested, it has an erythro- and leukopoietic effect, as a result of which it is prescribed for agranulocytic angina, aleukia, poisoning with benzene, leukopenia due to chemotherapy of neoplastic formations, as well as other diseases characterized by a decrease in the number of leukocytes.
Anabolic compounds can fix calcium in bone tissue, stimulate appetite, increase working capacity, improve the general well-being of patients, and increase weight. In diseases of the digestive tract, they are used in connection with the ability to normalize the exchange of nucleic acids in the mucous membranes. This causes the appointment of this group in the treatment of gastric or intestinal ulcers, gastritis, hepatitis, pancreatitis.
In order to obtain a high efficacy of this group of drugs, patients should eat well and ensure a high level of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamin and mineral substances in the body.
Methyluracil as an ointment belongs to a non-prescription group of drugs and is available without a prescription.
