Pharmacological properties

Ferlatum Fol - a preparation of iron and calcium folinata, replenishes the lack of iron and folate in the body.
The main function of iron is the transfer of oxygen to the tissues. The iron part of hemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome iron-containing enzymes, transports electrons and works as a catalyst of oxidation reactions, hydroxylation and other metabolic processes.
Fol Ferlatum contains iron-protein suktsinilat representing a complex compound, wherein the atoms of trivalent iron (Fe3 +) are surrounded by a semi-synthetic carrier protein, preventing damage to the gastric mucosa. The protein carrier is redissolved in the duodenum, releasing iron at the site of its better absorption.
From the intestine to the blood, trivalent iron comes through active absorption, which explains the impossibility of overdosing and poisoning.
Calcium folinate is the calcium salt of folic acid, which compensates for the lack of folate in the body.

Indications for use

- Treatment of latent and clinically pronounced iron deficiency (iron deficiency anemia) and folate;
- Preventive therapy of iron deficiency and folate during pregnancy, lactation, active growth; after prolonged bleeding, against a background of inferior and unbalanced nutrition.

Children (from the newborn period): 1.5 ml / kg / day (in an amount equivalent to 4 mg / kg / day of Fe3 + and 0.0235 mg / kg / day of calcium folinate pentahydrate) in 2 divided doses or according to the doctor's recommendations.
1 bottle (15 ml) contains: iron protein succinylate 800 mg (equivalent to 40 mg Fe + 3) and 0.235 mg calcium folinate pentahydrate (equivalent to 0.185 mg folinic acid).

For treatment of latent or clinically pronounced iron deficiency - 1-2 vials a day in 2 divided doses.
After reaching the normal values of serum iron and hemoglobin, the treatment is continued for at least 8-12 weeks, setting a maintenance dose.

Side effects

In rare cases, the occurrence of gastrointestinal disorders, which disappear when the dose is lowered or the drug is withdrawn.
