Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The active ingredient meloxicam is a derivative of oxycam. It has an anti-inflammatory effect by blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins and the enzyme cicoxygenase-2, which takes part in a cycle of arachidonic acid.
Under the influence of meloxicam, the activity of the mediators of the inflammatory process and the permeability of the vascular walls is significantly reduced, the reactions with free radicals are inhibited. Anesthesia occurs due to a decrease in the activity of interaction of prostaglandins and nerve endings.
A stable maximum concentration is achieved within three to five days. It binds well to proteins in the blood plasma (99% and above). Metabolized in the liver, forming 4 metabolites. They do not play a role in the pharmacodynamic processes. Metabolites are excreted with feces and urine, for a period of 15 to 20 hours.
