Composition

One milliliter of eyedrops of Travatan contains: 40 μg of active agent travoprost + disodium edetate, trometamol, castor oil 40 polyoxyethylene hydrogenated, water, benzalkonium chloride, boric acid, mannitol, sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid.

Form of issue

The drug is released as a clear, colorless solution, prone to opalescence. The solution may have a yellowish tinge.
The drug is sold in vials with a capacity of 2.5 ml, in aluminum foil bags, in a cardboard bundle 1 bottle.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The active ingredient is an analogue of prostaglandin F2a, its main selective antagonist having a high level of similarity to specific prostaglandin receptors. The drug is able to reduce intraocular pressure, increase the outflow of fluid from the eye.
Approximately 120 minutes after the use of drops, intraocular pressure decreases, the maximum effect of the drug is observed after 12 hours. The drug lasts about a day.
In clinical trials, it has been proven that Travatan can be combined with other antiglaucoma agents, such as Timolol and Brimonidine. In patients with open-angle glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure, daily pressure decreased by about 30%.
The drug belongs to the group of essential prodrugs. After instillation, the active components are absorbed through the cornea of ​​the eye, the isopropyl ether hydrolysis reaction occurs to form an active free acid. Contraindications

Side effects

    photophobia, opalescence in the anterior chamber of the eye;

    accelerated heartbeat, bradycardia;
    herpetic keratitis;

    tinnitus, increased PSA;
    allergic reactions;
    dysgeusia, dizziness;
    dyspnoea, asthma, cough, nasal congestion;
    erosion of the cornea, uveitis, keratitis, iridocyclitis;
    dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, puffiness of the eyes, dilated pupil, cataract, asthenopia;
    erythema, hypertrichosis, allergic reactions to the skin, madarosis;

The drug is intended for ophthalmic use.
Eye drops are used once a day. The medicine is buried in a conjunctival sac, best before bedtime.
Before the first application it is necessary to tear the tip of the dropper bottle.
After instillation, it is recommended that the eye be closed or nasolacrimal occlusion to reduce the likelihood of systemic adverse reactions.
The course of treatment is established by the attending physician.

Overdose
