pharmachologic effect

This drug has vasodilating (ie, affects the cerebral arteries) pharmacological action, and belongs to the group of alpha-adrenergic blocking drugs.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Essentially, Nicergoline is a synthetic ergot alkaloid and a derivative alpha-blocker, in the chemical formula of which you can see the remains of bromine-substituted nicotinic acid. The active substance, which is part of the drug and the derivative of ergoline, has a positive effect on the hemodynamic as well as metabolic processes occurring in the brain.
Due to the alpha1-adrenergic effect of the drug, the blood flow velocity in the lungs, limbs and brain is increased, and platelet aggregation in the blood decreases and its hemorheological parameters are improved. In addition, the drug compound has an antispasmodic and at the same time myotropic effect on the muscular membrane of the vessels, thereby increasing the permeability of glucose and leveling the effect of the ergoline ring.
The drug lowers the tone of the vessels, and also saturates the arterial bloodstream with glucose and oxygen. Nicergoline has a positive effect on blood pressure, which, when taken in patients with hypertension, can gradually be normalized. The drug improves hemorheological indices, and also reduces platelet aggregation and increases blood circulation in arteriopathy.
Bioavailability of this drug is approximately 60%, its maximum concentration of nicergoline reaches in the blood an hour and a half after the first administration of the drug. From the body, the drug is 80% excreted by the kidneys, another 20% come out with feces.
