Composition

One tablet of Sumamigren contains 100 or 50 mg of sumatriptan.
Additional substances: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, talc, magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide.
Sheath composition: hypromellose, macrogol 6000, titanium dioxide, talc, triethyl citrate.

Form of issue

Biconvex light pink tablets of oblong form with a notch on one side - on the cut are white. 2 or 6 tablets in a blister - one blister in a cardboard bundle.

Pharmacodynamics

Specific selective stimulant of 5HT1D-serotonin receptors, without affecting other species 5HT-serotonin receptors. 5HT1D receptors are located in the blood vessels of the brain, their stimulation causes a narrowing of these vessels. Sumatriptan also weakens the susceptibility of the trigeminal nerve to irritants.
The clinical effect is fixed in half an hour after taking the tablet inside.

Pharmacokinetics

Quickly absorbed. Bioavailability is about 14%. Binding to plasma proteins by 14-21%. The main derivative is indoleacetic sumatriptan, which has no pharmacological activity.
The elimination half-life reaches two hours. It is excreted mainly with urine.

Indications for use

Treatment of migraine attacks.

Contraindications

    Coronary heart disease (including myocardial infarction, postinfarction cardiosclerosis, Prinzmetal angina).
    Hemiplegic, ophthalmoplegic and basilar types of migraine.
    Illnesses of peripheral arteries of occlusal character.
    Uncontrolled arterial hypertension.
    Sensitization to the drug.
    Stroke or ischemic attack of transient nature.
    Severe liver or kidney disease.
    Pregnancy or lactation.
    Joint reception with MAO inhibitors or with ergotamine and its derivatives.
    Age is less than 18 years and more than 65 years.

Side effects

    Phenomena from nervous activity: convulsive attacks, tremor, sensitivity disorders, dystonia, drowsiness, nystagmus, dizziness, scotoma.
    Phenomena from sight: weakening of visual acuity, diplopia, temporary loss of sight.
    Phenomena on the part of the circulation: hot flashes, temporary ECG changes, heart rhythm disturbances, tachycardia, cardiac artery spasm, bradycardia, angina pectoris, temporary increase or decrease in blood pressure, myocardial infarction, Raynaud's syndrome.
    The phenomena of digestion: dysphagia, nausea, ischemic colitis, vomiting, a feeling of discomfort.
    Appearances from the musculoskeletal system: stiff neck muscles, a feeling of heaviness.
    Phenomena from the side of breathing: irritation of the mucous membranes of the nose, shortness of breath, nosebleeds.

Tablets are consumed orally without chewing.
A single dose is 50 mg, in some cases it may be necessary to use large doses, for example, 100 mg. If the symptoms do not disappear and do not weaken after the first dose, then the remedy should not be recommended to stop the recurring attack.
If the symptoms are weakened and then returned, then a second dose of the drug may be taken within the next 24 hours.

Overdose

Interaction

With a joint admission with Ergotamine, a prolonged spasm of the vessels is revealed.
Possible pharmacological interaction of sumatriptan and MAO blockers, their combined use is contraindicated.
There are rare reports of the appearance of serotonin syndrome as a result of the simultaneous use of selective blockers of the capture of serotonin and sumatriptan.

This drug can not be used for preventive purposes.
It is not recommended concomitant use of other 5-HT1-agonists with sumatriptan.
