Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Oksolin ointment, in its external and nasal form, is an antiviral medication whose activity is aimed at blocking the connection of the cell membrane with the virus acting on it and protecting the cell from its penetration. Nasal ointment Oxolinum in the nasal mucous membranes is characterized by its virucidal action, which prevents reproduction of the virus. The effectiveness of the drug is manifested in relation to influenza viruses, adenoviruses, shingles and herpes simplexes, molluscum contagiosum and viral warts.
The application of the drug to the nasal mucosa results in a partial absorption of its active ingredient in the systemic bloodstream. The volume absorbed in this way the drug can reach up to 20%. At the same time, this does not cause local effects and resorptive toxic effects. Cumulation of Oxolinum in the body does not occur. Excretion is carried out mainly by the kidneys during 24 hours.

Indications for use

The scope of the drug in its external (cutaneous) form covers strains of viruses sensitive to Oxolinum, for which the ointment is prescribed for the treatment of warts (including flat, ordinary and genital warts), as well as contagious molluscs, shingles, psoriasis and pemphigoid herpes (in complex therapy ).
The nasal form of the drug is intended for intranasal application (on the nasal mucosa), from which the ointment is indicated for the purpose of therapy of viral rhinitis and the prevention of influenza.

Contraindications

Personal hypersensitivity of the patient to Oxolinum.

Side effects

When applying the application to pathologically altered skin or nasal mucous, a temporary burning sensation is possible, which in the latter case can lead to rhinorrhea.

Instructions for use Oxolinum (Method and dosage)

For the treatment of viral warts, 3% Oxolinum is applied to their surface at a frequency of 2-3 times per 24 hours for the time until the complete disappearance of the condyloma (usually a course of such therapy takes 14-60 days). To enhance the effectiveness of the treatment at the site of application, it is recommended to apply occlusive dressings using waxed paper.

Nasal ointment Oxolinum, instructions for use

Therapy of viral rhinitis is carried out by lubricating the nasal mucosa with 0.25% Oxolinum at a frequency of 2-3 times per day for 3-4 days.
Prevention of influenza is 2-3 times a day applying 0.25% of the ointment to the nasal mucosa. This procedure is recommended to be performed during the seasonal rise of influenza diseases or in case of contact with an already infected patient, for up to 25 days.
