Activated carbon is a drug from a group of enterosorbents.
Composition and form of release
The preparation Activated charcoal is available in the form of tablets for oral administration. Tablets are round compressed formations and are available in paper packaging of 10 pieces.
Each tablet contains 250 or 500 mg of active active ingredient - Coal of vegetable or animal origin, which has undergone special treatment.
Indications for use
Activated tablet pills have a high absorbing function and are capable of absorbing gases, harmful compounds, toxic substances, the products of vital activity of pathogenic bacteria. The drug is prescribed for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes under the following conditions:
bloating of the intestine;
processes of putrefaction and fermentation in the intestine after taking some products;
increased secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach;
acute poisoning, accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea and general weakness;
intoxication of the body with medicinal preparations, paint and varnish materials, alcohol;
infectious diseases - salmonellosis, dysentery;
chronic renal failure;
cirrhosis of the liver;
a violation of the function of the liver, as a result of which the body does not cope with its direct duties;
Activated Carbon can be administered to patients in preparation for endoscopic and ultrasound examinations of the digestive tract and pelvic organs to reduce the accumulation of gases.
Coal activated has some contraindications, so before taking the tablets inside, you should carefully read the instructions. The drug is not prescribed to patients in the phase of peptic ulcer disease exacerbation with the presence of bleeding erosions on the gastric mucosa.
Coagulated activated tablets are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity or individual intolerance, with ulcerative colitis, suspected intestinal bleeding.
Method of administration and dosage
Coal Activated tablets are taken orally after meals or half an hour before meals. Activated charcoal is well tolerated by patients, side effects practically do not arise.
With long-term use of the drug in large doses in patients, there is a violation of absorption of fats, proteins, microelements. Signs of an overdose of Activated Carbon are:
a decrease in the level of glucose in the blood plasma;
decrease in body temperature (hypothermia);
lowering of blood pressure.
When one or more signs of an overdose appear, the drug should be discontinued immediately and consult a doctor. Treatment of an overdose is symptomatic.
Activated tablet pills are not recommended to be taken concomitantly with any other medicinal products, since charcoal is impaired absorption of active substances, and accordingly the therapeutic effect of the drugs will be reduced.
