Quamatel is a remedy for the treatment of peptic ulcer from the group of histamine receptor H2 blockers.

Form of formulation and composition of the preparation

Quamatel is available in the form of tablets for oral administration. Each tablet is covered with a protective film shell and contains 20 mg of active substance - famotidine. The drug is packed in blisters of 14 pieces, 2 blisters in a cardboard box, in which detailed instructions are enclosed.
In addition to other substances, lactose is included as an auxiliary component, which should be taken into account when prescribing a drug to persons with lactase deficiency.

Pharmacological properties

The drug belongs to the group of H2 blockers of histamine receptors. Under the influence of the main component, production of hydrochloric acid and pepsin activity decrease.
The drug has no effect on the process of food movement through the stomach and intestines, does not affect the exocrine ability of the pancreas. After taking the pill inside, the therapeutic effect develops after 1 hour, reaches its maximum after 3 hours and lasts up to 24 hours, which directly depends on the dose taken.

Indications

Tablets are administered to patients under these conditions:
    Prevention of recurrences of stomach ulcers and 12 duodenal ulcers of chronic course;
    Treatment and prevention of ulcerative formations on the mucous membranes of the digestive tract, which occur against the background of long-term use of aspirin or drugs from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
    Treatment of inflammatory processes of the bulb of the duodenum with ulcerous formations;
    Dyspepsia due to increased secretory function of the stomach;
    Reflux esophagitis;
    In order to prevent repeated bleeding from the upper sections of the gastrointestinal tract.
The drug is effective as a prophylactic for the prevention of aspiration of gastric juice with general anesthesia during surgical interventions.

Contraindications

The drug has a number of the following contraindications for use:
    Period of bearing of the child and lactation;
    Age to 14 years;
    Individual hypersensitivity or intolerance to the drug;
    Lactose intolerance;
    Severe form of hepatic or renal insufficiency.
The medicine with special care is prescribed for patients with cirrhosis of the liver and liver diseases, which are accompanied by a violation of its function.

Dosing and Administration

Quamatel tablets are taken orally.
For treatment of peptic ulcer disease of the stomach or duodenum, the drug is prescribed 2 tablets once a day or 1 tablet 2 times - in the morning and in the evening. The drug is taken before meals, the duration of treatment largely depends on the severity of the clinical picture, according to the instruction it is not less than 1-2 months. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

Adverse Events

    Pain in the muscles, pain in the joints.

Overdose

When ingesting large doses of the drug or prolonged uncontrolled use of the drug, the patient develops symptoms of an overdose:
    Nausea and indomitable vomiting;
    Excitation, irritability;
    Tremor of limbs;
    Decrease in blood pressure;
    Acute vascular insufficiency;
    Tachycardia.
With the development of such clinical symptoms, treatment with the drug is immediately stopped, the patient is taken to a hospital where the stomach is washed and, if necessary, symptomatically treated. In severe cases of overdose it is appropriate to conduct hemodialysis.

Interaction with other drugs

With the simultaneous use of tablets with amoxicillin or other drugs based on clavulanic acid, there may be an increase in absorption of the latter, which increases the risk of severe adverse effects and overdose.
Enterosorbents and antacids with simultaneous use with the drug reduce the absorption of the main active substance of the drug, resulting in a reduced therapeutic effect of Quamatel.
In parallel with the use of Quamatel tablets drugs that oppress hemopoiesis in the bone marrow, the risk of developing neutropenia increases.
