The active substance is a synthetic fluorinated quinolone. It has antibacterial action against gram-negative and gram-positive (to a lesser extent) microorganisms. It is used in ophthalmology and ENT-practice for the treatment of diseases caused by chlamydia, Proteus mirabilis, Enterobacter cloacae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, golden and epidermal staphylococci. The mechanism of action is explained by the inhibition of DNA-hydrazes of microorganisms, which ensures the stability of their DNA (destabilization leads to death). The active substance is not destroyed by beta-lactamases, aminoglycoside, adenylases and phosphorylases.

The concentration of active substance in the lacrimal fluid exceeds the minimum required to suppress the growth of pathogens of eye diseases.
