Composition

Zovirax Duo Activ is a combined antiviral drug containing acyclovir and hydrocortisone.
Acyclovir is active against the Epstein-Barr virus, Varicella zoster, Herpes simplex (1 and 2 types). Inhibits the replication of viruses. When applied to the skin, acyclovir is transformed into mono-, di- and triphosphate, which is included in the chain of DNA viruses, by the action of thymidine kinase of virus-infected cells, which leads to blocking the replication of new generations.
Hydrocortisone - a weakly active glucocorticosteroid, which exhibits anti-inflammatory, antiexudative and antipruritic effect. The combination of these substances prevents the formation of herpetic eruptions (if applied in the prodromal period) and shortens the period of their healing.

Pharmacokinetics

With topical application, acyclovir is slightly absorbed.
Hydrocortisone, penetrating through the stratum corneum of the epidermis, is also slightly absorbed. Suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system with the use of recommended doses of the drug is not noted.
