Moviprep instruction for use

You can buy Moviprep on this page

pharmachologic effect

Oral administration of a solution of electrolytes based on macrogol, causes mild diarrhea, which results in rapid emptying of the contents of the colon.
Macrogol-3350, sodium sulfate and ascorbic acid have an osmotic effect that causes a laxative effect.
Macrogol-3350 increases the volume of feces, which leads to an increase in the intestinal peristalsis.
Electrolytes that are part of the drug, as well as additional fluid intake prevent the violation of the water-electrolyte balance.

Pharmacokinetics

Macrogol-3350 does not change while being in the intestine. It is practically not absorbed from the digestive tract. The absorbed amount of macrogol-3350 is excreted through the kidneys.
Ascorbic acid is absorbed mainly in the small intestine by active sodium-dependent saturable transport. There is an inverse relationship between the dose received and the absorbed dose percentage. When administered orally at a dose of 30 mg to 180 mg, about 70-85% of the dose is absorbed. At the subsequent oral intake of ascorbic acid in a volume of up to 12 g absorbs only 2 g.
After oral intake of large doses of ascorbic acid and in case of exceeding its concentration in plasma of 14 mg / l, absorbed ascorbic acid is excreted mostly unchanged in kidneys.

3. Conducting the process of cleaning the intestines with the drug Moviprep

Packaging Moviprep contains two sachets A and two sachets B, from which a solution for oral administration is prepared. Regardless of the weight of the patient, the total dose of Moviprep for qualitative cleaning of the intestine is 2 liters of the drug solution.

1. Preparation of the first liter of the solution of Moviprep

The contents of one sachet A and one sachet B must be completely dissolved in a small amount of non-carbonated drinking water at room temperature, bring the volume of the solution to 1 liter with water and mix.

2. Preparation of the second liter of the solution of Moviprep

Repeat the algorithm for preparing the drug solution from point 1 (see above), using the remaining sachet A and sachet B.
The prepared solution of Moviprep should be drunk for 1-2 hours, for example, 1 glass every 15-30 minutes.
Important: when taking Moviprep, it is strongly recommended to use 1 liter of another liquid (non-carbonated water, broth, fruit juice without pulp, soft drinks, tea or coffee without milk (with sugar or honey)).
Do not eat solid foods from the beginning of taking the solution of Moviprep and until the end of the diagnostic study or surgery.
In two-stage (1 l in the evening and 1 l in the morning) and one-part evening and morning dosing regimens (regardless of the purpose of medications with sedative effect), the drug should be stopped at least 2 h, but no more than 4 h before the beginning of the procedure, and the reception of other liquids (according to the list of permitted products) must be discontinued not less than 1 hour, but no more than 4 hours before the procedure begins.
The criterion of readiness for diagnostic examination or surgical intervention is the appearance of a liquid transparent or almost transparent, slightly colored stool. When taking a solution of Moviprep at home, it is necessary to take into account the appropriate time interval for a trip to the clinic for the procedure. Frequent liquid stools usually appear within 1 hour from the start of taking each liter of Moviprep and ends, usually after 1-2 hours. During the period of taking the drug, the frequency of defecation can increase to 12-15 times.
If the patient is taking any medications, he should tell the attending physician before taking Moviprep.
Care should be taken when taking Moviprep in patients with severe renal insufficiency (CK <30 mL / min).
Patients with impaired renal function or patients who follow a diet with a controlled potassium content should take into account that the preparation contains 14.2 mmol of potassium per 1 liter of solution.

Side effects of Moviprep

Diarrhea is an expected effect in the preparation of the intestine. Due to the nature of the effect of the drug during preparation of the intestine for the procedure, undesirable effects are noted in most patients. Despite some differences in specific cases, the most common undesirable effects are: nausea, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain, irritation in the anus and sleep disorders. As a result of diarrhea and / or vomiting, dehydration can develop.
As with other products that contain macrogol, various allergic reactions are possible, including rash, hives, itching, dyspnoea, Quincke's edema and anaphylactic shock.
Definition of the categories of the frequency of undesirable effects: very often (≥1 / 10), often (≥1 / 100, <1/10), infrequently (≥1 / 1000, <1/100), rarely (≥1 / 10,000, < 1/1 000), very rarely (<1/10 000), the frequency is unknown (it is impossible to estimate based on the received data).
From the side of the immune system: the frequency is unknown - allergic reactions, including anaphylactic reactions, dyspnea and skin reactions.
Mental disorders: often - sleep disturbances.
From the nervous system: often - dizziness, headache; frequency is unknown - convulsions associated with acute hyponatremia.
From the side of metabolism: the frequency is unknown - dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, including a decrease in the level of bicarbonate in the blood, hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, hypokalemia and hyponatremia and changes in blood chloride levels.
From the cardiovascular system: the frequency is unknown - a brief increase in blood pressure, arrhythmia, palpitations.
From the gastrointestinal tract: very often - abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, irritation in the anus; often - vomiting, indigestion; infrequent swallowing; the frequency is unknown - flatulence, the urge to vomit.
From the liver and biliary tract: infrequent - deviations from the norm of functional liver tests.
From the skin and subcutaneous tissues: the frequency is unknown - allergic skin reactions, including angioedema, hives, itching, rash and reddening of the skin.
General reactions: very often - malaise, fever; often - chills, thirst, hunger; infrequently - discomfort.
If any of the above undesirable effects are aggravated, or the patient has noticed any other undesirable effects not listed in the instructions, he should inform the doctor about it.

Overdose

Symptoms: severe diarrhea, which can lead to a disturbance of the water-electrolyte balance.
Treatment: it is usually sufficient to consume a large amount of liquid, preferably fruit juices. If necessary - intravenous infusion solutions to restore the water-electrolyte balance.

Drug Interactions

Diarrhea caused by taking the drug Moviprep, can lead to a violation of absorption of other concurrently taken drugs. Drugs taken orally within one hour prior to the onset of laxative action of the drug (eg, oral contraceptives) can be removed from the digestive tract without being absorbed.

special instructions for Moviprep

Older patients, weakened or emaciated patients with various concomitant diseases, patients prone to aspiration or regurgitation, with impaired consciousness, especially if the drug is injected through a nasogastric tube, the drug should be administered under medical supervision.
The prepared solution of Moviprep does not replace regular fluid intake, so it is necessary to maintain a sufficient level of fluid in the body.
In depleted, weakened patients, patients with various concomitant diseases, with clinically significant renal dysfunction, arrhythmia and the risk of electrolyte imbalance, the need to determine the level of electrolytes at the baseline and after treatment, assessing kidney function, and performing an ECG study should be considered.
In rare cases, a serious arrhythmia was observed, including atrial fibrillation associated with the use of ionic osmotic laxatives for bowel preparation. These phenomena occur mainly in patients with existing cardiac risk factors and a violation of the electrolyte balance.
If patients develop any symptoms that indicate arrhythmia or water / electrolyte balance shifts (for example, swelling, shortness of breath, fatigue, heart failure), you should determine the level of electrolytes in the blood plasma, perform an ECG and conduct adequate treatment for all revealed abnormalities.
If the patient has symptoms such as severe flatulence, bloating, abdominal pain, or any other reactions that make it difficult to continue taking the drug, slow or temporarily stop taking the medication and consult a doctor.
In the treatment of patients who follow a diet with a controlled sodium content, it should be taken into account that the preparation contains 56.2 mmol of sodium absorbed per 1 liter of solution.
When treating patients with impaired renal function or patients who follow a diet with a controlled potassium content, it should be taken into account that the preparation contains 14.2 mmol of potassium per 1 liter of solution.
