The cream for external use is white, homogeneous, with a characteristic odor.

pharmachologic effect

Preparation with local irritating and analgesic action. It causes muscle relaxation, increases blood flow, facilitates the removal of irritating metabolic products (primarily lactic acid), allows you to increase the duration of exercise and improves their tolerability.
The irritating effect of racemetol helps reduce pain. The local action is accompanied by the expansion of the vessels, causing a sensation of cooling, turning into a feeling of slight burning and tingling, followed by an analgesic effect.
Methylsalicylate is an anti-inflammatory analgesic. Nonselectively inhibits cyclooxygenase, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins. Normalizes the increased permeability of capillaries, improves microcirculation processes, reduces edema and infiltration of inflamed tissues. Provides only local action.

Pharmacokinetics

With external application, the concentration of racemetol in the systemic circulation is negligible.
Methyl salicylate, when applied externally, penetrates the tissues through unchanged skin, while analgesic concentration in the systemic blood flow is not achieved. Salicylates are excreted mainly by the kidneys; the rate of excretion depends on the plasma concentration and pH of the urine.

Indications

- to reduce pain and stiffness in the joints and muscles in damage, sprains and inflammation;
- to reduce pain in the lower back;
- with myalgia (muscle pain) before and after sports.

Contraindications

- violation of the integrity of the skin and inflammatory
skin diseases at the site of application;
- children's age till 12 years;
- pregnancy (III trimester);
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Caution should be given to the drug during pregnancy (I-II trimester), during lactation (breastfeeding), with intolerance to salicylates.

Dosage

Outwardly. The necessary amount of cream (2-4 g, which corresponds to 4-8 cm of cream) is applied to the painful area and rubbed. The cream is quickly absorbed through the skin. If necessary, the procedure is repeated every few hours (up to 3-4 times / day) for 10 days.

Side effects

In rare cases, hypersensitivity to the drug develops.
Racetenol can cause allergic reactions, which manifestation is hyperemia, itching, urticaria, skin rash, as well as angioedema. The actual number of side effects with external application of racemenol is low.
Methyl salicylate can cause severe local irritation.

Overdose

Overdose of menthol and methyl salicylate was observed in some cases, mainly in children, with the occasional ingestion of drugs containing these substances.
Overdosing with external application is rare and only when the drug is misused (applying to mucous membranes, to large areas of damaged or infected skin).
Symptoms of methyl salicylate overdose: excitation, increased depth of breathing, hyperpyrexia.
Symptoms of an overdose of racemenol: nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and symptoms of CNS depression, such as dizziness, unstable gait, flushing of the face, drowsiness, respiratory depression and coma.
Treatment: symptomatic and supportive; correction of electrolyte and water balance, the appointment of absorbents and salt laxatives, forced diuresis, external cooling of the body; in severe cases - blood transfusion, hemodialysis.

Drug Interactions

The drug causes flushing of the skin and reflexively enhances blood circulation in the subcutaneous tissue, so the joint application with other topical preparations can lead to an increase in their absorption.
Patients susceptible to acetylsalicylic acid, with external use of methyl salicylate, had skin allergic reactions, as well as angioedema.
