Pharmacological properties
Chondroxid ointment normalizes metabolism in hyaline tissue, stimulates regenerative (regenerative) processes in articular cartilage, has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, and slows the progression of osteoarthritis and osteochondrosis.
Chondroxid ointment contains a natural component of chondroitin sulfate, derived from cattle tissue. Chondroitin sulfate is a high molecular mucopolysaccharide that slows bone resorption and reduces calcium loss. Chondroitin sulfate improves phosphorus-calcium metabolism in cartilage, accelerates the processes of its reparation, inhibits the processes of degeneration (destruction) of cartilage tissue; interferes with the collapse of connective tissue; inhibits enzymes that cause damage to the cartilage tissue, stimulates the synthesis of glucosaminoglycans, promotes regeneration (restoration) of the articular sac and cartilage surfaces of the joints, increases the production of intraarticular fluid. This leads to a decrease in pain and an increase in mobility of the affected joints.
Dimethyl sulfoxide, which is part of the ointment, contributes to a better penetration of chondroitin sulfate through the cell membranes into the tissue, has some anti-inflammatory, analgesic and fibrinolytic effects.
