Form of issue and composition

The drug Floxal is available in the form of drops and ointment.
Eye ointment is available in aluminum tubes of 3 g, in a cardboard box with the attached detailed annotation. To the tuba with ointment is attached a nozzle with an elongated tip for the convenience of laying the drug behind the eyelid.
The contents of the tube are a homogeneous light yellow ointment that does not have odor and foreign inclusions. In 1 g of ointment contains 3 mg of active ingredient - Ofloxacin, as well as a number of additional auxiliaries, including white petrolatum and liquid paraffin.

Indications for use

Floxal Ointment is intended for putting into the eyes as a therapeutic agent for inflammatory eye diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to Ofloxacin:
    conjunctivitis;
    keratitis;
    blepharitis;
    barley;
    dacryocystitis;
    keratoconjunctivitis;
    ulcerous lesions of the cornea.
Ophthalmic ointment Floxal can also be used to prevent the development of infection after eye injuries, eye surgery, after removing a foreign body from the eye.

Contraindications

Before using Floxal ophthalmic ointment, the patient should carefully read the attached instructions. Contraindications to laying the drug in the eye are:
    intolerance of Ofloxacin;
    increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug;
    pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding.

Dosing and Administration

Floxal Ointment is designed to be stored behind the eyelid. The duration of therapy and the daily dose of the drug is determined by the doctor for each individual patient, depending on the diagnosis and severity of the course of the disease.
Before laying the drug, you should hold the eye toilet, rubbing the eyelid from the outer corner to an internal cotton swab dipped in boiled water. For each eye, you need to take a new cotton swab, so as not to spread the infection. When using an ointment as a preventive agent, the eye toilet can be omitted.
Before storing the ointment, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Lower eyelid gently pull down, apply a thin strip of ointment on the mucous membrane of the eye under the lower eyelid, without touching the tissues with a tip. Close the eye and gently massage the eyelid with your fingers to distribute the drug evenly.
Apply Floxal ointment at least 3 times a day, if necessary, use the drug can be combined with eye drops Floxal.
The duration of treatment with the drug is 3-5 days, in some cases, treatment with Floxal ointment may last up to 7 days. In the absence of therapeutic effect or aggravation of the course of eye diseases, the patient is recommended to consult an ophthalmologist.

Application of the drug during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug Floxal in the form of eye ointment in the first trimester of pregnancy is not recommended for women. Ofloxacin in a small amount is absorbed into the total blood flow and can adversely affect the process of bookmarking and forming internal organs.
Use of the drug in the second and third trimesters is possible if there are serious indications, if the benefit to the mother exceeds the possible risks for the child.
The use of the drug Floxal in the form of an ophthalmic ointment during breast-feeding is not recommended. It is not known about the abilities of Ofloxacin to excrete with breast milk, so it is better to interrupt lactation for the period of drug use.

Adverse Events

The drug Floxal ointment is well tolerated by patients. Side effects occur in individuals with increased individual sensitivity to the components of the ointment and are expressed by the following clinical symptoms:
    burning in the eyes;
    redness of the mucous membranes of the eyes;
    swelling of the eyelids;
    sensation of foreign body in the eyes;
    impaired vision, which quickly passes;
    rashes around the eyelids, skin irritation;
    lacrimation;
    photosensitivity and photophobia.

Overdose

Cases of overdose of ointment Floxal are not described, however it is not recommended to exceed the dose indicated by the doctor in order to avoid negative reactions.

Interaction of the drug with other drugs

Ophthalmic ointment Floxal can be administered concomitantly with other eye drops and ointments, however, an interval of at least 5 minutes between instills and mortgaging should be maintained.
Patients wearing contact lenses should be removed for the treatment period.
In the presence of postoperative complications on the eye, the patient is prescribed Floxal ointment simultaneously with oral preparations from the group of fluoroquinolones. Treatment is carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
