    Neomycin sulfate - 10 mg (6500 units);
    sulfate polymyxin B - 10 000 units;
    methylsulfobenzoate dexamethasone sodium - 1 mg.
And also auxiliary substances:
    lithium chloride;
    thiomersal;
    citric acid;
    sodium hydroxide;
    polyethylene glycol 400;
    polisobat 80;
    distilled water.

Form of issue

Polydexa is a combined preparation that is delivered to pharmacies in two, fundamentally different, pharmacological forms:
    Drops in the ears in bottles of dark glass to 10.5 ml. In addition to the preparation, a dosage pipette is also put in the cardboard package.
    Nasal Spray is a clear, colorless liquid in 15 ml bottles with a special nebulizer. A cardboard box holds one vial of a drug.

pharmachologic effect

Pharmaceutical preparation Polydexa is a combined drug, which, according to its therapeutic effect, is classified as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. The active components that make up the droplets for the ears, in particular Neomycin and Polymyxin, make it possible to suppress pathological microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeroginos, Haemophilus influenzae. Unfortunately, some types of streptococci, staphylococci and anaerobic bacteria remained resistant to the influence of the pharmaceutical preparation.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

There were no reliable studies of pharmacokinetic abilities of the drug, as Polydexa is used topically and has a very low degree of absorption in the peripheral and main bloodstream (systemic effects develop only with a significant increase in dosage or an extremely long course of conservative therapy).

Indications for use

Ear drops are used in the following pathologies:
    external and otitis media (only if there is no defect of the tympanic membrane);
    infected eczema of the ear canal.

Contraindications

    increased individual sensitivity to the components of the pharmaceutical product;
    hereditary or acquired intolerance of the active substances of the drug;
    infectious or traumatic injuries of the tympanic membrane;
    closed coal glaucoma or suspected of this pathology;
    period of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
    children up to 2.5 years;
    nosological units caused by varicella or herpes viruses;
    albuminuria or retention of urination and kidney disease that lead to these pathological conditions;
    the propensity to ventricular tachycardia by the type of pirouette or the intake of pharmaceutical preparations that contribute to the appearance of this anomaly.

Side effects

Unfavorable consequences of treatment with ear drops appear only in isolated cases. There may be local allergic reactions, for example:
    hives;
    itching;
    rashes.
Since the nasal aerosol contains more active ingredients and effects its therapeutic effects through the mucosa, side effects are more likely. As with the ear drops, in the first place, there may be similar allergic reactions, which are supplemented by a sensation of dryness in the nasal passages. Adverse consequences of a systemic nature are possible only with a prolonged course of conservative treatment or at dosages of a pharmaceutical preparation that are significantly higher than prescribed by the instruction. In this case, one can observe:
    headache;
    insomnia;
    increased blood pressure;
    tachycardia;
    tremor;
    reactions of the microcirculatory bed in the form of pallor or redness.

Instruction on Polydexa (Method and dosage)

Ear drops are very popular among patients in otolaryngological hospitals, since this form of the drug is extremely simple to use, it has a meager list of side effects that occur only in isolated cases. Also, there was no reliable data on the overdose of Polydexa for the ears in the medical literature.
Instructions for use Polydexa are practically the same in pediatric practice and for adults. So the dosage to children, as well as the older category of patients, is 1-2 drops for the ears in each ear canal 2 times a day. With appropriate indications and severe course of the disease in adults, the amount of medicinal product used can be increased to 5 drops. Before carrying out the manipulation, it is recommended to warm the medicine slightly.
The duration of the course of conservative therapy is 6-10 days.

Overdose

Cases of overdose with ear drops in the medical literature are not described. Long-term nasal spray therapy or use of dosages exceeding the prescribed dosage may lead to systemic side effects.

Interaction

The drug interaction, which exerts clinical effects, develops as a result of the phenylephrine content in the nasal aerosol. Simultaneous use of this pharmaceutical form Polydexa with guanethidine increases the hypertensive effects of the active components of the spray. Also, due to a decrease in sympathetic tone, prolonged mydriasis can be observed. Therefore, with absolute indications for the use of these medications combined therapy is recommended constant monitoring of the attending physician and conducting appropriate clinical tests.

Storage conditions

Store the pharmaceutical product should be at a constant temperature mode not above 25 degrees Celsius and in a place inaccessible to direct sunlight.
Shelf life 3 years

special instructions

Drops for the ears are not recommended for use in the presence of perforation of the tympanic membrane. In this case, there is the possibility of toxic effects of the active components of the drug on the auditory or vestibular apparatus.
With special care, the drug should be used when suspected of a fungal or viral etiology of the disease. It is recommended to conduct additional studies before the start of the course of conservative therapy.
Among the active ingredients of the pharmaceutical preparation, there is dexamethasone, a biologically active substance that, under doping control, can give a positive result with a prolonged course of treatment or dosages considerably exceeding those specified in the instructions (the acting components may have systemic effects).
It is impossible to say unequivocally: Polydexa is an antibiotic or not, although this question often pops up at the pharmaceutical forums devoted to this topic. Of course, the drug contains active components of an antibiotic nature, for example, Polymyxin B or Neomycin, however, by its nature, neither the nasal spray nor drops for the ears are classified as an antibiotic. Also a positive feature of this drug is the possibility of simultaneous use of it with antibiotics of systemic action, if there are corresponding medical indications confirmed by the attending physician.

Polydexa for children

Pharmaceutical preparation Polydexa is often used in pediatric practice, since inflammatory pathologies of the nose and ear are found in children everywhere. As soon as a small child crosses the threshold of the house, cough, snot, colds, earaches and other manifestations of rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, or other inflammatory diseases begin. Drug in the form of drops or nasal spray can be used by children at the age of 2.5 years. The instruction on this medicine does not give more meaningful instructions, that is, the pharmaceutical preparation is applied extremely easily, for this purpose, it will not even be necessary to undergo any special training courses or medical knowledge.
Separately it should be noted that the price of a medicine does not greatly upset parents and does not hurt the family budget. Therefore, having a Polydexa preparation in stock is a simple task. Do not forget about the recommendations for a pharmaceutical product. Most thematic forums praise Polydexa as a substance that allows a record-breaking short course of conservative therapy to eliminate the problem of so annoying rhinitis, sinusitis, or otitis in both the adult category of patients and the younger ones.
From a medical point of view, Polydexa's children are also welcomed. The reviews of qualified specialists confirm that the active components of the drug can quickly and effectively get rid of inflammatory pathology, even in pediatric practice, when the young body has not yet sufficiently formed its own immune systems.

Polydexa during pregnancy (and lactation)

The use of a pharmaceutical drug during pregnancy and during breastfeeding is categorically contraindicated, since the action of the active components on the developing organism of the child has not been studied properly.

Reviews about Polydexa

Ear drops Polydexa enjoy a good reputation in the relevant thematic forums and pharmaceutical online resources. The majority of patients who took the course of this drug leave very positive feedback, urging the active use of drops for conservative treatment of the disease of the external and middle ear.
The opinion of doctors from a professional point of view confirms that the pharmaceutical preparation Polydexa really takes first place among conservative therapy measures in otolaryngology. Both ear drops and nasal spray effectively eliminate the cause of the inflammatory process underlying the disease, and therefore the use of such a drug is classified as an etiological sanation.
Not only adults, but also children are happy with the treatment with Polydexa, because the pharmaceutical drug regains dryness of the nasal mucosa, allows you to freely exercise nasal breathing, hear at full strength and most importantly - again to play with friends on the street through some 6- 10 days, because conservative therapeutic course is minimal in this area of pharmaceutical preparations.
