Riboxin tablets improve the course of metabolic processes in the cardiac muscle (myocardium) and reduce the severity of hypoxia (insufficient oxygen supply to the cells). They are used in the complex therapy of various pathologies of the cardiovascular system.

Composition and form of release

Riboxin tablets are yellow or yellow-orange in color, round in shape and biconvex. The main active ingredient of the drug is inosine, its content in one tablet is 200 mg. It also includes auxiliary substances, which include:
    Methyl cellulose.
    Macrogol.
    Potato starch.
    Titanium dioxide.
    Iron oxide.
    Sucrose.
    Polyvinyl alcohol.
    Stearic acid.
Riboxin tablets are packaged in contour cell packs of 10 and 25 pieces. The cardboard pack contains 2 contour cells with 25 tablets or 5 contiguous cell packs of 10 tablets (total 50 tablets) and instructions for the use of the drug.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The active component of Riboxin Inosine tablets is a precursor to the synthesis of purine nucleotides, namely guanosine and adenosine triphosphoric acid, which are among the main energy suppliers within cells. It also promotes the normalization of cellular tissue respiration, improves the metabolism of pyruvic acid and positively affects some enzymes of the biochemical cycle of Krebs. By restoring the energy potential of the heart cells, the drug has several therapeutic effects that include:
Metabolic effects - improvement of all kinds of metabolism in cells.
Antiarrhythmic effect - the normalization of the frequency and rhythm of contractions of the heart.
Antihypoxic effect - increased myocardial resistance to a reduced intake of oxygen into the cells in conditions of circulatory disorders (ischemia).
Increases the strength of contractions of the heart muscle, increases the shock volume of the blood and promotes a more complete relaxation of the muscle fibers during diastole.
Also, inosine reduces platelet aggregation, thereby contributing to the prevention of intravascular thrombus formation and activating the process of regeneration (repair) of damaged tissues.
After taking Riboxin tablets inside, the active ingredient is quickly and almost completely absorbed into the systemic bloodstream. It is evenly distributed in tissues, metabolized in the liver with the formation of glucuronic acid. In a small amount is excreted by the kidneys.

Indications for use

The main medical indication for taking Riboxin tablets is a complex therapy of coronary heart disease characterized by a violation of the blood flow in it, a heart attack (cardiac muscle death) of the myocardium, rhythm disturbances and heart rate (arrhythmia), in particular due to the use of pharmacological drugs glycosides. Also, the drug is used for liver pathology, including alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty dystrophy.

Contraindications for use

Absolute medical contraindications for the use of Riboxin tablets are gout, hyperuricemia (a violation of the exchange of purine bases with an increase in the level of uric acid in the blood and the deposition of crystals of its salts in the joints), syndrome of digestion and absorption of some carbohydrates (glucose, fructose), individual intolerance of any of the components preparation. With caution, the drug is used for diabetes mellitus and a decrease in the functional activity of the kidneys. Before starting taking Riboxin, it is important to make sure there are no contraindications.

Dosing and Administration

Riboxin tablets are intended for oral administration to adults. They are taken after meals, without chewing and washing with a sufficient amount of water. The recommended therapeutic dosage in the first days of the course of therapy is 200 mg 3-4 times a day (600-800 mg), then it is gradually increased to 2,400 mg per day (2 tablets 2-3 times a day). The duration of the course of therapy varies from several weeks to 3 months. With liver pathology, the dosage is 800 mg per day (2 tablets 2 times a day or 1 tablet 4 times a day at the same intervals). The course of therapy up to 3 months.

Side effects

In general, Riboxin tablets are well tolerated. Sometimes, against the background of their reception, it is possible to develop allergic reactions (rash on the skin, itching, hives, angioedema Quincke). With prolonged use of the drug, single cases of an increase in the concentration of uric acid in the blood, as well as exacerbation of gout, have been reported. The question of the need to stop the use of the drug in these cases is decided by the doctor individually.

special instructions

Before taking Riboxin tablets, you should read the instructions carefully. There are several special instructions, the implementation of which will reduce the likelihood of complications, side effects, as well as increase the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug, they include:
During the entire course of therapy, laboratory monitoring of uric acid levels in the blood should be performed.
Patients with concomitant diabetes should take into account that one pill Riboxin contains 0.00641 XE (bread units).
The drug has no effect on the functional activity of the cerebral cortex.
It is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy or during breastfeeding, as its safety for the developing fetus or infant remains unidentified.
Medicines of the pharmacological group of immunosuppressants (ciclosporin, azathioprine) reduce the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug.
In the pharmacy network, Riboxin tablets are dispensed on prescription. It is not recommended their independent uncontrolled use without the appropriate appointment of a doctor.

Overdose

Currently, cases of an overdose of Riboxin tablets have not been established.
