The effectiveness of this drug manifests itself in the homozygous familial form of hypercholesterolemia, when treatment with conventional lipid-lowering drugs does not work. With internal reception of atorvastatin, good absorption is noted. The maximum concentration in the plasma composition is reached after 2 hours and has a dependence on the adopted dosage.
Eating does not have a significant effect on the bioavailability of the substance. At the same time about 98% of atorvastatin comes into contact with plasma proteins. As a result of the metabolism of the main component, pharmacologically active substances are formed, the excretion of which occurs with bile and slightly with urine.
