The drug Ftalazol belongs to the group of antidiarrheal, antimicrobial agents with anti-inflammatory effect.

Form of formulation and composition of the preparation

The drug Ftalazol is available in the form of tablets for oral administration. Tablets of white color, packed in blisters of 10 pieces in a cardboard box, a detailed instruction with a description of the characteristics is attached to the preparation.
Each tablet of the drug Ftalazol contains active active substance - Phthalylsulfatiazole 500 mg, as well as a number of additional auxiliaries. The drug is effective against staphylococci, streptococci, gonococcus, pneumococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and others.

Indications for use

The drug Ftalazol is intended for oral administration, indications for the use of tablets are:
    acute intestinal infections;
    acute dysentery;
    enterocolitis;
    gastroenteritis;
    colitis;
    diarrhea and vomiting on the background of eating poor-quality food.
Tablets are also prescribed to patients as a prophylactic, to prevent the development of complications in the patient against the background of surgical interventions on the intestine or diagnostic invasive procedures.

Contraindications

The drug has some contraindications, so before taking the pill, the patient should carefully read the attached instructions. Tablets can not be taken orally if the patient has one or more conditions:
    bleeding from the intestine;
    intestinal obstruction or suspicion of it;
    pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
    the patient's age is up to 12 years;
    severe liver and kidney disease, accompanied by a violation of the function of the body;
    individual intolerance of the drug components.

Method of administration and dosage

Ftalazol tablets are taken orally, squeezed with a sufficient amount of liquid, it is better if the tablet is not grinded, but immediately swallowed, since for greater effectiveness the drug must dissolve in the intestine.
The dose of the drug is determined by the doctor individually for each patient, depending on the characteristics of the body and age. According to the instructions, adults and adolescents over 12 years of age are prescribed 1000 mg of the drug up to 6 times a day. The duration of therapy is an average of about a week, but if necessary, the course can be extended to 10 days under the supervision of a doctor.
When non-infectious diarrhea occurs, Ftalazol tablets are prescribed 2 times after each liquid stool. Treatment can be continued for up to 7 days, however, once the stool is normal and within 12 hours the patient no longer has diarrhea, the pills can be stopped.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The experience of taking the drug during pregnancy is absent or severely limited, so to avoid the development of complications from the fetus, Ftalazol tablets are not recommended to be prescribed to pregnant women.
Studies on the safety of the active ingredient of the drug for the fetus and the organism of the expectant mother have not been carried out and the safety of the tablets has not been established.
It is not known whether the active active substance of the drug is excreted in breast milk and how it can affect the baby, so during the lactation the woman does not recommend taking Ftalazol tablets. If therapy is necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued so as not to harm the child.

Side effects

The drug Ftalazol well tolerated by patients, but in some cases, especially with increased individual sensitivity to the components, there may be a number of negative side reactions:
    on the part of the digestive system - nausea, discomfort in the epigastric region, belching, heartburn, bloating, constipation;
    from the side of the skin - allergic reactions, rash, hives, swelling of the mucous membranes;
    rumbling in the abdomen.
Usually these side effects are poorly expressed and quickly pass on their own without requiring the withdrawal of therapy.

Overdose

Cases of drug overdose are unlikely, but it is not recommended to take tablets more than 10 days in large doses. If the therapeutic effect is absent and diarrhea continues, then you need to see a doctor again to clarify the diagnosis and correction of the prescribed treatment.
When ingesting a large number of tablets (more than 10 pieces), the patient should be vomited, rinsed and enter enteric sorbents.

Interaction of the drug with other drugs

The drug Ftalazol can be prescribed concomitantly with sulfonamide drugs and antibiotics. Preparations of these groups together with Ftalazol supplement the therapeutic effect of each other and better affect the causative agent of the pathological process.
It is not recommended to take Ftalazol tablets concurrently with antacids or enterosorbents, since in this case the therapeutic effect of the drug will be reduced.
