Composition

Active component:
Hydrocortisone-17 butyrate
Excipients:
95% vaseline oil, 5% polyethylene glycol

pharmachologic effect

Local anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, antipruritic.

Pharmacodynamics

Locoid ointment is a synthetic non-halogenated glucocorticosteroid agent for external use, which has increased activity due to the esterification of hydrocortisone molecules with butyrate. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, anti-edema, vasoconstrictor, immunosuppressive effect. Slows down the processes of formation and division of keratinocytes, reduces the percutaneous penetration of microorganisms and allergens, and also significantly slows down the loss of water, preventing the development of xerodermia.
In the recommended doses, it does not inhibit the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system. At the same time, prolonged use of the drug (including the application of occlusive dressings) may cause an increase in plasma cortisol levels. After discontinuation of the drug, the condition is completely normalized.

Pharmacokinetics

After applying to the skin, Locoid turns into hydrocortisone 21 butyrate. The drug accumulates in the granular epidermal layer, further disintegrating into hydrocortisone and butyric acid. After absorption into the skin, the ointment is completely metabolized in the liver and does not cause systemic reactions. Pharmacological effects of the drug are limited to the epidermis. Its metabolites are excreted along with urine, and, in small quantities, along with feces.
