Dexpanthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid, which is a water-soluble vitamin B, required as a component of coenzyme A for carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. It plays an important role in the processes of acetylation in gluconeogenesis, the release of energy from carbohydrates, the synthesis and cleavage of fatty acids, the synthesis of sterols and steroid hormones, acetylcholine.
Pantothenic acid is necessary to maintain the normal function of the epithelium, increasing the need for it is noted in cases of damage to the skin or tissues, in this case, local deficiency of pantothenic acid can be compensated for by local application of D-Panthenol ointment.
Stimulates skin regeneration, normalizes cellular metabolism, increases the strength of collagen fibers.
It has a regenerating, mild anti-inflammatory effect, nourishes and softens the skin.

Pharmacokinetics

The low molecular weight of dexpanthenol, hydrophilicity and low polarity make it possible to penetrate active substances into all layers of the skin.
When topical application is rapidly absorbed and converted to pantothenic acid, binds to plasma proteins (mainly with beta-globulin and albumin).

Indications

- in children - diaper dermatitis, scratches, minor irritations after exposure to the sun, ultraviolet and X-rays, for the treatment and prevention of diaper rash;
- cracks and inflammation of the nipples in nursing mothers;

Contraindications

Possible: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Dosage

Cream or D-Panthenol ointment is applied a thin layer on the affected area, gently rubbing, 2-4 times / day (if necessary more often). In case of application on the infected skin surface, it should be pretreated with an antiseptic.
